The New 2025 Toyota Land 4Runner

All-new and more aggressive than ever before, the 2025 Toyota 4Runner is built for adventure. From the ground up, the new 4Runner has been designed for those on the go, those who want to enjoy the outdoors through a vehicle with a go-anywhere attitude. So what can we expect in the new generation of this long-running name?

A Rugged Foundation

The TNGA-F global truck platform, found on the Tacoma, Land Cruiser, Tundra and Seqouia, underpins the new 4Runner. This rugged body-on-frame platform offers tons of strength, and paired with a multi-link coil rear and double wishbone front suspension provides improved manners on the road and ride comfort both on and off the road.

Maxing out the Force

Two powerful i-Force engines will be available under the hood of the new 4Runner. The base turbocharged 2.4-liter four-cylinder powertrain is paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission and will pump out 278 horsepower and 317 lb-ft of torque. Pairing that engine with a 48-horsepower electric motor integrated into the transmission, the i-FORCE MAX ups those numbers, with 326 horsepower and 465 lb-ft of torque. The base engine will be available paired with two-wheel, part-time four-wheel, and full-time full-wheel drive; the MAX will be paired with four-wheel drive only.

A Look to Match

With a sculpted, angular body, the new 2025 4Runner certainly has the look down. It’s a rugged look to match the rugged capabilities, sharing some aspects of the rest of the Toyota truck family while having traits all its own. There are nods to the history of the model – the wrap-over of the rear quarter glass, for instance, is a nod to first-generation models, while the power rear glass window is part of the model’s DNA. At the same time, the angular and aggressive design and moldings give it a modern, even slightly futuristic appeal.

Advanced Models for Big Adventure

Nine models are available on the new 4Runner, and while some of them focus on adding features, others like the TRD Off Road, TRD Off Road Premium, TRD Pro, and Trailhunter models aim to help take the fun into the untouched areas. The TRD Off Road and TRD Off Road Premium are standard off-road capable models, featuring an electronic locking rear differential and the Multi-Terrain Select system. These are perfect for the driver looking to tow a boat to the boat ramp, do some light camping, and still have a comfy commute to work.

The other two models are for the serious adventurer. Inspired by the Baja, the TRD Pro will be ready to tackle the dunes. Part of the TRD Pro family, it’s built to haul gear and crawl rocks, with TRD-tuned Fox shocks and front springs. The Trailhunter model meanwhile will feature ARB’s Old Man Emu shocks, 33-inch Toyo tires and a high-mount air intake for taking on rocks and streams, while also featuring an ARB roof rack and a 2400W AC inverter for carrying everything you need for an overland trek, and powering your electronics!

Set to hit the roads in the fall of 2024, the new 2025 Toyota 4Runner is the next generation of the venerated name, and it’s set to be a revolutionary truck for the off-road SUV market. Keep your eyes open and get in touch with your local Toyota dealer for updates!
