2023 Toyota Tundra vs. 2023 Ford F-150
The Ford F-150 has long been the yardstick by which the pickup truck segment has been measured. With over 70 years in production, it had a head start. But trucks like the Toyota Tundra have been working hard to make up for lost time! Even though it debuted nearly half a century later, the Tundra has made a name for itself by being innovative and reliable, a worthwhile alternative to the Big 3 American pickup truck builders. The 2023 Toyota Tundra continues that tradition, addressing the pickup truck segment from a different perspective and offering a truck that makes buyers sit up and take notice.
Performance
Toyota made a unique decision with the 2023 Toyota Tundra by only offering V6 engines – a twin-turbocharged i-Force version, and a hybrid i-Force MAX version that pairs an electric motor with that V6 engine. Either way, you get some good power behind you, some of the best fuel economy in the class, and impressive off-road capabilities. The F-150 offers a number of engine options, but some of them will really hammer you at the pump, particularly if you are looking for off-road capabilities.
On that note, the Tundra offers TRD Off-Road and TRD Sport packages across a number of trim levels, as well as the dedicated TRD Pro trim. These include improved suspensions with Bilstein shocks, skid plates, mudguards, Multi-Terrain Select, Crawl Control, Downhill Assist Control, larger all-terrain tires, a locking rear differential, and part-time four-wheel-drive. While Ford does offer these, they’re limited to the dedicated (and expensive) Tremor edition.

Design & Comfort
Thanks to a full redesign last year, the 2023 Toyota Tundra is modern and fresh, inside and out! Inside, the clean-cut interior and intelligent ergonomics make it comfortable for drivers and passengers alike. The Ford is still operating on a slightly older design, and it shows. Both vehicles offer plenty of space in their largest cabs – the Ford SuperCrew and the Tundra’s Crew Cab. The Ford starts life with a three-seat regular cab, adding additional seats will cost extra by stepping up to the Super Cab. The Tundra, however, offers seating for five as a minimum, with the Double Cab being the smallest one on offer.

Technology
While every full-size pickup truck is getting larger touchscreens, none of them measure up (literally) to the horizontally-oriented 14.0-inch offered in the 2023 Toyota Tundra. Like the Ford, the Toyota comes with a base 8.0-inch unit, however, the Ford only provides a 12.0-inch unit as an upgrade. Both upgraded screens feature wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration, and Bluetooth phone connectivity with music streaming is standard on all Tundras and F-150s. SiriusXM with a 3-month trial subscription is standard on all Tundras, giving you the option to find out if it is for you – on the F-150, it is an available cost-adding option.

Safety
Standard on all 2023 Toyota Tundras is the Toyota Safety Sense 2.5 suite, a class-leading grouping of safety and driver assistance features., and is standard on every version of the 2023 Toyota Tundra. This suite includes Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection, Full-Speed Range Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist, Lane Tracing Assist, Automatic High Beams, and Road Sign Assist. A Blind Spot Monitor with Rear Cross-Traffic Alert and Trailer Merge Warning, along with Front and Rear Parking Assist with Automatic Braking, is standard on all but the base SR5 trim.
The F-150, on the other hand, comes up short with standard safety and driver assistance systems. While they do offer a lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, and adaptive cruise control, these are all cost-adding options! Toyota knows that safety is priceless – so there’s no extra cost.
