Perhaps the most popular mid-size sedan on the road today - and certainly one of the most popular to new buyers - the Toyota Camry is a highly recognizable name. In the past, it might've brought to mind the definition of a boring, beige family car… but not any more!

The Toyota Camry is regularly Kelley Blue Book's resale champ in the midsize segment, for good reason. It retains the predictability and reliability it's always had - but the 2022 Toyota Camry now offers so much more! With potent power options, the latest tech, and even available all-wheel-drive, the Camry has redefined what the buyer should expect out of a midsize sedan!

Performance Features

To start with, the 2022 Camry is available with two different engines. The base four-cylinder 2.5-liter engine is responsive and peppy, offering a range of 202-206 horsepower and 182-186 lb-ft. or torque depending on the trim level and drivetrain it's paired with. That's one of the Camry's biggest selling points - all models with four-cylinder engines are available with front- or all-wheel drive, the only mid-size sedan at the price point that offers that level of flexibility! The eight-speed automatic transmission offers smooth shifts and well-set shift points for an optimized driving experience that comes with a cushioned ride and confident, composed handling. With the four-cylinder engine, the Camry can get up to 28 MPG around town and 39 MPG on the open road.

If that engine isn't powerful enough, the Camry is also available with a 3.5-liter V6 engine. While this is available only paired with front-wheel drive models, what you get in the trade-off is a 0-60 time of only 5.8 seconds, which will certainly get your pulse racing! This comes thanks to the 301 horsepower and 267 lb-ft of torque that gets put down to the performance-minded suspension, and is available with the XLE and XSE trims - or in the sport-tuned TRD trim. It does come with a drop in fuel economy, although we think that the 22 MPG city and up to 33 MPG highway is well worth it.

Style and Technology

Thanks to 38 inches of head room and legroom in the rear seat, the 2022 Toyota Camry offers a spacious interior that is welcoming for even taller passengers. The fit and finish throughout is top notch, while materials vary depending on the trim you go for - from the utilitarian basic LE trim to the luxurious XSE trim featuring leather trim, leather wrapping, upscale patterned metal trim and more! You can get the right Camry package to fit your vibe! 15.1 cubic feet of cargo volume means you've got plenty of room for groceries and more - the trunk is impressively deep, and swallows luggage easily.

Angling to bring you the most comfort and convenience possible, there are plenty of features even at the base level. Even the base LE trim features dual-zone automatic climate control, and the Smart Key System with Push Button Start is available on all trim levels while being standard on higher trims. Every Camry features numerous USB ports, for charging and for media connection. Optional creature comforts including heated and ventilated seating, as well as a heated steering wheel.

The infotainment experience in every Camry is centered around a 7-inch (or 9-inch, if you want a larger surface) touch screen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration and SiriusXM capabilities. A six-speaker audio system is standard, and is Amazon Alexa compatible, with a USB charge and media port. Serious audio fans will want to be able to get the most out of their playlist with the premium JBL nine-speaker system that is standard on the V6 XLE and XSE trims, and includes a subwoofer and an amplifier.

For the 2022 Toyota Camry, Toyota wasn't sitting on their safety laurels - while the Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 was already one of the leading systems available, the new Camry features the Toyota Safety Sense 2.5+! The updated system features same proven roster of driver assistance systems, with everything from the Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection and Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist to Lane Tracing Assist, Automatic High Beams, and Full-Speed Range Dynamic Radar Cruise Control standard. Road Sign Assist is an intelligent system that uses the vehicle's forward-facing camera to recognize road signs and relay the information to the driver via the dash display. A backup camera is standard. The Blind Spot Monitor with Rear Cross-Traffic Alert is standard on the higher trim levels, but it's still available as a cost-added option to lower trims. Dynamic guidelines for the back-up camera are added at the higher trim levels, and there's also the ability to upgrade to the Bird's Eye View Camera with 360-degree view in low-speed drive, Perimeter Scan, and Curb View.

Trim Levels

With five different rim levels plus options packages, the 2022 Toyota Camry makes it easy to customize a Camry to fit the needs of the individual or family.

The base LE is standard with FWD and offers AWD, features a manual climate control system with rear seat vents, along with fabric-trimmed seating. The driver's seat features 8-way power adjustability while the front passenger seat offers manual six-way adjustability. Three USB media ports are included for charging and sharing tunes. On the exterior, power-adjustable mirrors include a folding feature for squeezing into tight spots, or merely tucking them in when parked, and the Camry LE sits on 17-inch alloy wheels. The 7-inch touchscreen with six speakers is standard. A power tilt/slide moonroof is optional.

Camry SE models feature all of the base trim's standard features, and is more of an appearance package than a whole different trim. Inside, the seats are upgraded to synthetic leather, while on the exterior the SE gets a unique front and rear fascia as well as 18-inch black machine-finished alloy wheels. The same options packages as the LE are offered, and the SE can also get an added heated steering wheel. The blacked-out Nightshade edition gives the Camry a menacing appearance, featuring black trim across the exterior, a unique black mesh grille, and 18-inch black-painted alloy wheels.

Moving up to the XLE trim builds on the base trim. To start, you can get the optional V6 engine - although it will come at the loss of the possibility of all-wheel drive. Leather upholstery with heated front seats is standard, and can be upgraded to heated and ventilated seats. The front passenger's seat is upgraded to 8-way power adjustability. Qi-compatible wireless smartphone charging is standard, helping you get rid of cords in the cabin, while a leather-trimmed steering wheel is standard. A touch of luxury comes from an upgrade to wood inlay interior trim. Rear seat vents are added for better climate control of the rear seats. Finally, the 9-inch touchscreen infotainment unit is standard on the XLE and up, with optional navigation.

Similar to the SE trim, the XSE is essentially the XLE trim but with an upgraded appearance. It shares the same front fascia as the SE, but sits on 19-inch gloss-black alloy wheels instead of the 18-inch wheels of the SE. Dual exhaust with quad chrome tips is a step up from the standard chrome tips of the SE. Inside, the trim is a more futuristic patterned metal trim.

Featuring performance upgrades as well as appearance and convenience upgrades, the TRD trim combines a sporty attitude with cabin comforts. Under the hood, the V6 is standard, and the trim features a track-tuned suspension that lowers ride height for greater agility. Larger brakes offer better stopping power. A discreet rear spoiler and distinctive styling elements, along with TRD badging and a TRD cat-back dual exhaust with polished stainless steel tips all give the trim the look of a performance sedan. Upholstery reverts to SofTex-trimmed sport fabric, but the inside gets full TRD treatment including unique floor mats and a unique shift knob, along with aluminum sport pedals. The JBL sound system is standard on the TRD trim.
